Which material should you choose?

Durability and moisture
MaxMetal does not swell from moisture, which makes it forgiving in wet environments. MDO is manufactured for exterior use, but every cut edge, drilled hole, and damaged area should be sealed. If water reaches the wood core repeatedly, the panel can swell or delaminate.
Surface and appearance
MaxMetal has a consistently smooth surface well suited to printed vinyl and direct printing. MDO can also look excellent, especially when primed and painted, but the surface preparation and edge finishing require more labor.
Cost and total ownership
Material pricing varies, but MaxMetal often reduces labor because it does not require edge sealing or repainting. MDO can be economical when the shop or installer is already set up for woodworking and painting.
Mounting and fabrication
MDO holds conventional wood screws well and integrates naturally into wood frames. MaxMetal is easier to carry and drill but should be supported properly and fastened with washers or appropriate sign hardware.
